The Style Matrix on Voice of America

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Last week, The Style Matrix was featured on a segment for a program airing on Voice of America giving viewers tips on mixing East and West fashion. Voice of America's anchor Sarah Zaman and cameraman Kevork came over to our house for the shoot - it was a lot of fun and really exciting! But it's amazing how much work goes into just a few minutes of air-time. We were setting up, rehearsing and shooting for almost 6 hours!

Here are a few shots of us working hard behind-the-scenes ;)

More photos after the jump...

In these shots, I'm explaining to Sarah how you can take a traditional Afghan dress from a market and pair it with feminine and (slightly) preppy accessories to make it work for day, whether that's at the office or at parties like bridal or baby showers. The bright, colorful embroidery makes this dress really stand out, so neutral accesories like a cream jacket worn over-the-shoulders like a cape, peep-toe pumps, and a lady-like purse tone down the colors and make this piece truly versatile. Finally, a string of pearls adds that elegant touch.

In these last shots, I show Sarah how to take a vintage tunic (this one here is from our line) and turn it into a cute shirt-dress by adding a metallic belt. The look is completed with other metallic accessories (remember these shoes?) to complement the silver wired embroidery in the dress.

And that's a wrap! Stay tuned for this shoot's video clip, coming soon!
