Another thing South Asia does best is jewelry - and they should know, they've been doing it since 1500 BC! From South Asia we get gold, ruby, emeralds, and raw uncut diamonds to die for!
In the right shapes and designs, these pieces worn with western clothes make for a unique outfit, mixing modern with exotic.
Cate Blanchett stunned us all a few years ago by pairing a simple black dress with these surprise gold Indian pieces in the back, in her hair, and on her arm:
Bollywood is now taking the same cue, with actresses Sonam Kapoor and Deepika sighted pairing traditional Indian jewelry with modern western dresses:

What do you think of this look? Do you have any favorite South-Asian inspired jewelry pieces? Sometimes my favorite place to shop is my mom's closet - she has vintage pieces from Pakistan that you just can't find anywhere else these days. I chose an emerald, ruby, and gold piece and paired it with a bright red silk dress

Flipping through Bollywood photos, I came across this up and coming Bollywood actress - Chitrangada Singh. Usually I can't tell one from the other since they all have the same look going for them - tight clothes, skinny, fake boobs, long straight hair.
But this actress has such a sophisticated and beautiful look, I had to do a posting on her! Doesn't she look more mature and less plastic than the other ones? I've never seen her act, but I hope her acting skills are better than the unfortunate excuses for actresses we have in Bollywood today!
Seems gowns that look like saris have made their way to Bollywood too! Sari-gowns seem easier to wear than saris and more practical - while still having that traditional look and beauty.
Check out Kareena and Katrina in these gowns:

I like that you could wear these to a South Asian wedding and then anywhere else too.
I want to see more!

Aishwarya Rai and Mallika Sherawat were both at the Oscars this year. I think Mallika dresses like a tart, and this time was no exception. Maybe if it didn't have that slit in the chest it wouldn't look like she was trying so hard for attention. Oh well, she needs to be recognized for something, right?! And what better than some good ol' T and A.
Aishwarya's Armani Prive dress was unfortunately not flattering on her -
not in that dull brown color, and not on her figure. I'd like to see
her in something bright that complements her skin tone and brings out
that natural tan! Versace has made many a career and would have been a
great choice for her - I would have loved to see her in something like
this Atelier Versace from Fall 2010.

Mallika, on the other hand, could have surprised us all with going a little more fashion-forward instead of opting for the overdone sexpot. Can you imagine how fresh and stunning she would have looked in something like this Spring 2011 Elie Saab?
It's as if Mallika suffers from too much sex appeal, and Aishwarya, not enough.
While I must say most Bollywood actresses aren't known for their particularly good sense of style, there are a few who can dress to impress. A great example right now is famous Bollywood actor of the 80s, Anil Kapoor's daughter, Sonam Kapoor:

Good hair, great nails... Don't you just love glamor done right?

Good hair, great nails... Don't you just love glamor done right?
Anyone who knows me knows that for some reason, I know way too much about Bollywood. Although I don't particularly like the movies (they're kind of long and I sort of have ADD) I absolutely LOVE all the gossip and overall hotness! (So what if there's an absurd amount of plastic surgery!)
Although most Bollywood stars aren't known for having a particularly good sense of style, there are a few who've managed to move past the tacky looks Bollywood is best known for. Here are some Bollywood actresses dressing great at an international level:
Check out Priyanka Chopra in Salvatore Ferragamo/Spring 2009, and Sushmita Sen first in Roberto Cavalli/Spring 2009 and later Lanvin/Spring 2010
