For those lingering warm days of the first part of fall, sometimes it's nice to add an ethnic piece with warm tones that complement the balmy weather outside.
Here, I'm wearing an ethnic embroidered belt worn low on the hips over a long chartreuse silk blouse with denim shorts and a pop of red tie-up heels.
What are some of your favorite summer pieces you'll miss wearing when fall comes in full swing? I'll definitely miss the off-the-shoulder trend.
It's finally started to feel like fall! I can't wait to bring out my favorite fall pieces again.
I love the boho look of floral crowns, and the edgy look of studded boots. Combining these two trends balance each other out, I think.
What are your favorite fall pieces that you're looking forward to wearing again?
If you've been following this blog, you know I try to find beautiful ethnic pieces and incorporate them into an everyday look for a unique style. You can check out more posts in this series here!
I think the reason I'm drawn to ethnic pieces is because they're so bold and colorful. I love that hand embroidery and embellishment have been practiced for hundreds of years. It amazes me that indigenous embroideries throughout the world - whether in South Asia, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, or South America - all have styles in common, without the communities having any actual contact with each other. It reminds you how small this world really is, and how we are all so much more alike than we sometimes think.
Mixing and matching these pieces into an everyday look is also a small way of celebrating my own ethnic heritage. I came across the front embroidery for this top when visiting the Middle East a few years ago. It was sourced from the northern areas of Pakistan, and I made it into a shirt for Haute Heritage. Here, I paired it with denim shorts and bold red chunky tie-up heels for an added pop of color.
I know some of you have started mixing your own ethnic pieces into your everyday looks too. Please share them with us! (You can post them on The Style Matrix Facebook page here) or share them on Instagram with #EthnicEverywear! I will start sharing all your looks on the blog here, so keep posting and check back often!
Let me know what you think of this look, and if you would like to see anything in particular featured on the blog here. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts and having a conversation about how to wear beautiful ethnic pieces! #EthnicEverywear

I hope you all had a nice long weekend!
We stayed in the area and had nice kid outings like swimming with friends, visiting the farm, hiking, and going to the playground :)
We had some time to take some pics though! Here, I'm wearing a black and gold suit from Haute Heritage. The fabric is actually traditional jamewar, which is a South Asian style of weaving silk! I loved the pattern and thought it would make a great bold statement suit. I paired it with a simple, boxy black crop top and heels, and finished the look with just a few statement pieces like a sharp necklace and punk-looking ear cuff.

Summer's almost over, so wear your whites now! Last weekend we did the best outdoor thing you can do when it's so hot: go swimming!
But before that, we strolled around Old Town Alexandria. Here I'm wearing a simple blue off-the-shoulder top with white jeans. I wanted a pop of color, so I added some red tie-on chunky heels, and added a colorful ethnic-embroidered clutch I bought when we were in South Asia a few years back. You know how I love mixing chic ethnic-inspired pieces with everyday clothes!
What do you think - do you like the ethnic touch, or would you prefer to see a different style for an unexpected pop of color? Leave your thoughts in the comments section below - I'd love to hear your ideas!

I love this gold and black belt! It's edgy and chic all at the same time. I wore it here on an otherwise plain black dress for work, with nude heels.
I'm inspired by all different global styles, and love incorporating ethnic pieces into my everyday outfits. I have a lot of South Asian and Pakistani clothes in my closet because of my personal cultural heritage.
The pieces are so beautiful, but I can usually only wear them on special cultural occasions. So I've set out to make them wearable in any outfit, any occasion.
That's where the "Repurposing Ethnic Pieces" series comes in. You can check out previous posts in this series (Parts 1, 2, and 3) here, here and here.
Here, I take a traditional Pakistani lehenga choli and wear the choli as a short embellished vest over an everyday black shift dress.
I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments below! What do you think about repurposing ethnic pieces for a more versatile, everyday look? Would you try it out?

Hi guys!
I hope you're having a great summer and that you were able to take some time to yourselves to decompress, relax, and just take a deep breath.
We took a short trip to Puerto Rico last week before getting back to the grind - and it was more amazing than I had expected! We visited two different parts of the island - Fajardo and Bahia Beach, and took a day trip to Palomino Island which was out of this world. White sand and crystal-clear still water. I love that feeling of swimming in fresh salty water (and not having to worry about chlorine turning my hair green, haha).

Hi guys!
My photographer-cousin and I were playing around with the camera this weekend while we prepped for the next blog series which will be coming up soon. It's a series of posts showing different ways to wear interesting, ethnic pieces.
Here we were brainstorming backdrops and presentations at my aunt's house.
Check back soon for more!
