Happy New Year everyone!
We spent our New Year's taking the kids to the kid-friendly Renwick Gallery downtown. They have a gorgeous rainbow installation in a dimly-lit room where you can lie on the floor and stare up at the ceiling. It has a calming effect on everyone, and is really just lovely. You should check it out if you have a chance!
Here's to a happier, more peaceful 2017 and hoping that love and togetherness prevails.

It's so hard to dress cute when it's freezing outside! I was catching up with some friends this weekend, and had to ransack my closet for something to wear that was stylish but comfortable and warm. So I grabbed this embroidered coat from my line, Haute Heritage, belted it at the waist, and paired it with a neon yellow sweatshirt and some sleek leather leggings and finished the look with chic pointy toed heels.

What are your tricks for dressing cute and warm in winter?

Hello lovely readers,
I'm at 39 weeks here... and almost done with pregnancy (just one week left to go)! At this point I'm ready to be over with it and just want to meet the little one who loves kicking up a storm every night :)

Hey everyone!
At 36 weeks now, so almost there! I'm wearing the same cris-cross sweater from Pink Blush Maternity that I wore in an earlier post here. This time I just chose a more casual style, pairing the sweater with jeans and wedge sneakers for a stroll through Old Town Alexandria.

One look making its way back from the '90s is the dress-over-pants. Remember this baby?
Gwen Stefani, c.1998
Well, Gwen's style isn't the only thing that's improved since then. The dress-over-pants look is making a comeback, and this time it's sophisticated and sleek, thanks to the likes of Helmut Lang, Rag & Bone and Rebecca Taylor:
(... and Givenchy and Haider Ackermann while we're at it).
Hate it or love it, you have to admit: at least it's one way to carry your summer wardrobe into winter! For example - you might remember this dress from TSM's feature in the Washingtonian this summer:
To take your winter wardrobe into summer, you can wear a dress like this with a pair of sleek, slightly flared pants and a sweater thrown on top, and voila! You end up with an entirely different outfit, and one that's completely winter appropriate to boot:
To make this look work for you, here are some simple tips to keep in mind:
1) Keep the dress at knee-length or higher. A knee-length hemline will maintain the leg and waist proportions of your body. Anything longer tends to look awkward.
2) Keep the waist defined. With so much fabric (dress plus pants), you want to be sure to create shape somewhere. Instead of wearing a shapeless shift dress, try one with an empire-waist or one that will make it easy to define your waist with a belt.
3) Stick to darker tones. For winter months, stick to a neutral palette (like greys, blacks, and browns) to make you feel like your dress is made for winter, instead of being a horribly-misplaced dress from summer.

It's getting chillier out there! Which can only mean one thing - time to break out the winter coats.
After a long time in storage, I finally brought out one of my favorite coats again. Bought in my last year of college, this one's proven to be a classic that's withstood the test of time and trends.
One of my all-time favorite looks for winter is a long, lady-like winter coat. Even better is one with an elegant, belted waist.
