Although summer is officially over, we've been lucky with some gorgeous weather lately. A great neighborhood to enjoy these exceptional warm nights is Dupont Circle. After a day of walking around and shooting pics, hubby and I enjoyed a yummy dinner @ Circa. The calamari was delish and the Mahi Mahi was to die for!
Summer is a time to enjoy the great outdoors - whether that means spending the day doing sporty activities or enjoying the sights and sounds of the city at night.
One of my favorite things to do on a summer night is go to a nice patio in the city and watch people go by. D.C. has a few neighborhoods that lend themselves beautifully to the art of people-watching. What makes a good people-watching spot? A place you can sit comfortably, enjoy your favorite food and drink, and watch a bustle of stylish people go by without being noticed :)
We spent one recent balmy summer night enjoying the grub @ Matchbox in 8th St. Corridor, SW - I love their sliders and my hubby loves their Fire & Smoke pizza. Definitely check it out sometime if you haven't already!

There's no event that brings the glitter of Hollywood to this city like the White House Correspondents' Dinner - otherwise lovingly referred to as "nerd prom." This year though, it didn't look so much like nerd prom as it did maybe train-wreck magnet with Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian as some of the invitees. Yes, ladies & gentlemen, the message here is make a sex tape and/or go to jail for violating judge's orders and maybe you too can rub elbows with the President!
Anyway, on to more important things of the evening - like what the lovely ladies were wearing. Reese Witherspoon looked exactly like what one should when invited to a dinner hosted by the White House: she wore a demure black Monique Lhullier gown with elegant turquoise drop earrings for that pop of color.
Dakota Fanning wore an age-appropriate and pretty ice blue Prada that reminded me of Cinderella (in a good way!) though I wish she would've done something nicer with her hair rather than wear it down and messy. Even a front braid (with the rest worn down) would've been a nice option and would've still kept her looking youthful. Kate Hudson also made a great choice in a royal blue Jenny Packham, and her sleek high hair bun complemented the dress's boat neckline perfectly.
Eva Longoria chose to stand out from the crowd of long gowns in a short white Marchesa, which she rocked with black platform pumps that added a sharp (and great) contrast to the dress. And then there was statuesque Elle MacPherson in Romona Keveza - I can't see anyone wanting to follow her appearance on the red carpet!
The only dresses I wasn't a fan of were the ones on Rosario Dawson and Kim Kardashian. Rosario's revealed way too much decolletage for a White House dinner, and Kim's was just unflattering.
Take a look at some pics for yourself! And no, it's not just you... they are all indeed standing in the same I'm-a-Little-Teacup pose.
And how could we possibly post anything related to White House glamor and not discuss Mrs. Obama? I know everyone raves about her style, but it isn't without good reason. Sticking with one of the hot trends this season - prints - she chose a gorgeous, colorful Naeem Khan number, proving once again that she knows which designers she wears best. The only thing I didn't like was her choice of jewelry - the earrings were too casual for a formal dinner, and I wish she had worn a necklace (like these from Oscar de la Renta or Giles Brother), especially considering that the gown was strapless.

Busy busy weekend! Took a break from style blogging due to the OBLious news, but I'm back now!
There were a few star-studded events this weekend, so let's start with the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton on Saturday night.
Mila Kunis was there, looking ravishing in a black strapless gown with thigh-high slit. Loved that she wore her hair slicked back and her gold cuff. (Doesn't she look like a younger Angelina Jolie?):
First Lady Michelle Obama looked stunning - I loved that her hair was done differently, flipped out and wild. It's probably safe to say she's the sexiest First Lady the States has ever seen. I liked her choice of necklace and bangles, but I'm not so crazy about the color of the dress - it's too close to her skin tone, and I'm generally against any color that washes someone out:
Scarlett Johansson was also in attendance, wearing a dress that unfortunately did nothing for her: not the color (too dull) and not the cut (in a sea of ball gowns, why wear a daytime dress?):
Now that we've dished a bit about the styles, can we talk about who came with who? After lots of speculation (and rumored trips together to Cabo), Scarlett Johansson and Sean Penn made their debut together!
Hip-Hop Moghul Russell Simmons showed up with I guess girlfriend-of-the-moment Bollywood actress (and resident tart) Mallika Sherawat:
Stay tuned for next post: beautiful gowns at the Met gala!
